What are engine flippers?
*******************************

Engine Flippers are a tool for the North American pack for a few Eye Candy purposes.

There are 2 Flippers, Most people will only need one for their Game.

Flipper1 has new track sounds and flipper2 has an older diesel sound and horn.

I know 1/2 a page later, I have still not told you what it is for...
it is easier to show you then explain it, but here goes..

An engine Flipper is a locomotive that does not exist. I know you just said "a what?"..

It is an invisible locomotive with no HP and unlimited speed.

The idea was to use them for eye candy. as many have noticed screen shots popping up all over the forum of North American trains facing all sorts of directions.

The Idea was simple, Locomotion tends to reverse each locomotive unless specially coded not to flip (steam engines and booster units).

Your typical Locomotion Engine lash up is as such
F-B-F-B

F=Front Facing.
B=Back Facing.

By tossing a few Flippers in there, you can end up with any possible combo.

x=Flipper
E=Engine

F-F-F-B = ExExEE
F-B-B-B = EExExE
F-F-F-F = ExExExE
F-B-B-F = EExEE
B-B-B-F = xExExEE <== Recommend Engine sound Flipper If you plan to force a First engine to run Backward.

Etc. it is up to your imagination.

Known Limitation in Locomotion:
*******************************

In Locomotion while there is sound on a train, Only the first and Last Car of the train make any sound! Yes, You can have 15 locomotives and 200 cars and only the first and last play.

There is an exception to this. trains that require a power car in front and in back, this dose not effect us.

More Uses For Flippers:
*******************************

Here were a few unexpected uses for the Flipper.. and are not limited to...

*******************************
Uses for Engine Sound Flipper:
*******************************

*Reversing the first Engine to run long hood forward.

while i tend to set my locomotives up correctly for the railroads that ran long hood forward, Many railroads ordered early Geeps with dual controls so they can run either direction. We chose an older sound since You almost never see a modern locomotive running Long hood forward.

*******************************
Uses for Either Sound Flipper:
*******************************

*Use as intended to flip engines.

*To fix a badly coded user made train.
 I have seen a few MU or Freight/Passenger cars get messed up due to bad code. maybe the last engine on a passenger train is not facing to the back?

*******************************
Uses for Track Sound Flipper:
*******************************

*Sound Effects!
Place on the back of a Multiple-Unit train (EMU/DMU/Subway/Etc) that would normally not have a Clickity clack. (Be careful of "Shunting" - See Below).

You have a 1 car train, Maybe an RDC, Doodlebug, or a MOW item?

*Shunting!
this is a fun one I love. Running a switcher engine with 2-3 cars and the a flipper on the back, it runs backward and pushes the cars in front of it. (until the end of the line)

Bonus:
*******************************
If You are Getting this Set out of the North American Set (MP 1.0.1 or better), You will get a Bonus Flipper3 with Steam Engine sounds.
